Best Korean Toner: Which One Suits Your Skin?
„Which Korean toner is the best?“ – the honest answer here too: the one that suits your skin. A green tea toner that balances oily skin gives dry skin too little. A toner with acids that clears pores is too much for reddened, sensitive skin. So no ranking, but a guide: 16 Korean toners from our range, sorted by what your skin needs after cleansing.
What a Korean toner is – and what it is not
A Korean toner is the first care step after cleansing. It balances the skin, provides initial hydration, and prepares it for serum and cream. It has little in common with the classic facial toner that removes residue and often dries out the skin: The texture is watery to slightly gel-like, and most formulas rely on a clearly named main active ingredient – green tea, heartleaf, Centella, hyaluronic acid, rice, collagen, or mild acids. That is exactly how you recognize which skin a toner is made for.
For oily skin and combination skin: balance without stickiness
Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner
Shiny T-zone, but still want a fresh feeling? The Green Tea Fresh Toner combines 80 % green tea from Jeju with hydrating and sebum-balancing ingredients. The watery texture absorbs quickly and leaves no sticky feeling. For combination skin, oily skin, and sensitive skin that wants light care. Vegan.
Benton Deep Green Tea Toner
The gentler option with green tea from Korea: light, watery, soothing. The Deep Green Tea Toner supports a more balanced skin feeling and a clear complexion without feeling sticky. For skin that is oily and at the same time reacts sensitively. Vegan.
SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tea-Trica Purifying Toner
Clogged pores and skin that quickly „tips over“? Tea tree leaf water and a cypress/pine complex support the sebum balance, Centella soothes, and BHA gently dissolves buildup for clearer-looking pores. Tested non-comedogenic. If you are new to BHA, start with two to three applications per week and plan sun protection during the day. Vegan.
For blemish-prone skin and pores: toners with mild acids
COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner
The entry into acid care: Willow bark water, apple fruit water, glycolic acid, and betaine salicylate exfoliate gently in everyday use and make pores look clearer and finer. COSRX lists all skin types including sensitive. Important: always combine with sun protection during the day, do not use alongside other acids, retinoids, or vitamin C, and avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Vegan.
Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Toner
Plum water, mung bean extract, plus AHA and BHA: The Green Plum Toner removes sebum residue and dead skin cells, makes clogged pores look cleaner, and soothes at the same time. For everyone looking for a mild exfoliating toner for regular use. With sensitive skin, start with two to three applications per week, always SPF as the last step in the morning. Vegan.
Dearboo Skin Balancing Centella Cica Toner
Three acids plus soothing: AHA (lactic and glycolic acid), BHA (salicylic acid), and PHA (gluconolactone) gently dissolve skin flakes and excess sebum, while Centella, tea tree oil, aloe vera, and allantoin reduce redness and hyaluronic acid provides hydration. For blemish-prone skin with a shiny complexion. Start slowly and increase the frequency, use sun protection in the morning.
Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner
If your skin is unsettled, shines in some places, and still does not look balanced after cleansing: Aloe provides hydration and soothes, BHA gently clarifies and refines the skin. The light texture absorbs without weighing the skin down. The mildest acid toner in this list – with sensitive skin, still integrate it into the routine slowly.
For sensitive skin with redness: soothe instead of irritate
Anua Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner
Your skin turns red quickly and reacts to almost everything? 77 % heartleaf extract calms irritated skin and gives it back its balance. The toner provides light hydration without weighing the skin down and strengthens the skin barrier. The formula does without unnecessary additives. Morning and evening directly after cleansing. Vegan.

Vegan.
For dry skin: hydration in layers

Several hyaluronic acids supply it with hydration immediately and keep it supple for longer, aloe and soothing extracts make the toner pleasant for sensitive skin too. For dull skin and first lines: glow and plumpness
Beauty of Joseon Glow Replenishing Rice Milk Toner
Dry and still shiny quickly? The Rice Milk Toner works with a dual-layer concept: Rice extract and rice amino acids supply the skin with intensive hydration, while at the same time it balances excess sebum – glowy, not greasy. Shake well before use so the two layers combine. For combination skin and the „Milk Skin“ look under makeup.
Medicube Triple Collagen Toner 4.0
Collagen, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide in a water-light formula: The Triple Collagen Toner plumps the skin, supports smoother, plumper skin and a more radiant complexion. You can mix a small amount with your makeup base to enhance the glow. For skin that looks dull and tired.

How to use the toner in the Korean routine
The toner comes directly after cleansing, morning and evening. Order: cleansing, toner, serum, cream, and in the morning sunscreen as the last step. Put a few drops into your palms and gently press them into your face and neck, or apply the toner with a cotton pad from the center outward. Let it absorb briefly before the serum follows.
Hydrating toners like those from Isntree, Haruharu, or Round Lab can be applied in two to three thin layers – that is the basis of the „Glass Skin“ routine: The skin stores more hydration and looks plumper and smoother. You do not layer acid toners. They belong in the routine once a day, with sensitive skin two to three times per week, and during the day sun protection is always part of it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I even need a toner?
Not necessarily. If your skin does not feel tight after cleansing and you get along well with serum and cream, you can skip it. It makes sense if the skin is dry or unsettled after washing, or if you want to use an active ingredient – acids, heartleaf, hyaluronic acid – early in the routine.
Toner or essence – what is the difference?
The line is blurred. A toner is usually more watery and comes as the first step, an essence is often a little more concentrated and follows after the toner. Many Korean toners, for example those with hyaluronic acid or collagen, take on both tasks.
Can I use an acid toner every day?
The manufacturers of COSRX, Beauty of Joseon, and Dearboo describe their toners as mild enough for regular use. Still, start with two to three applications per week, increase only if the skin stays calm, and do not combine acids with retinol or vitamin C in the same step. Sun protection in the morning is a must.
What is the difference between toner and toner pads?
Toner pads are pads soaked with toner. The content is similar, the application is more targeted: You wipe the pad over the T-zone or leave it on for a few minutes. For the whole routine, the liquid toner remains the cheaper and more flexible choice.
