Which Korean Face Mask Fits Your Skin?
The mask that works wonders for your friend may do nothing at all on your skin – or even irritate it. A rich shea butter mask is great for dry skin, but too much for a shiny T-zone. A clarifying tea tree mask calms blemish-prone skin, but does not give dry skin the care it needs. That is why this guide answers two questions: Which mask types are there, and which mask suits your skin type and your skin concern?
The four mask types in brief
Before we get to skin types, it is worth looking at the format. Because the mask type also decides whether a mask suits you:
- Sheet mask: a soaked sheet for 10 to 20 minutes. The quick hydration boost for in between – uncomplicated and available for little money.
- Hydrogel mask: a gel-like pad that fits snugly and slowly turns transparent while the active ingredients absorb. Worn for 2 to 3 hours, many models also overnight. The intensive treatment among masks.
- Sleeping mask / overnight mask: a cream or a gel as the last step in the evening. Works overnight and is removed or washed off in the morning. For everyone who has no time for extra steps in the evening.
- Wash-off and special masks: everything that is applied and removed again after a short time – for example exfoliating or 2-step masks.
Important for all types: A mask does not replace a routine. It is the extra step after cleansing and toner – one to three times per week, depending on the mask and your skin condition.
Dry skin that feels tight
Does your skin feel tight after cleansing, look rough, or show fine dryness lines? Then you need masks that provide hydration and also hold it.
Missha Airy Fit Shea Butter Mask
The sheet mask for very dry, tight skin: Shea butter, hyaluronic acid, and soothing plant extracts form a moisture film that makes the skin supple and strengthens the skin barrier. Free of parabens, mineral oil, silicones, and alcohol. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes, two to three times per week.
It's Skin Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Mask Sheet
The uncomplicated hydration boost: Highly concentrated hyaluronic acid visibly plumps the skin in 10 to 15 minutes. Ideal for tired, dry, or stressed skin – and as a starting point if you want to try sheet masks first.
Sensitive skin with redness
If your skin reacts quickly with irritation, the rule is: soothing ingredients instead of strong actives. Centella Asiatica and aloe are the classics of Korean skincare here.
Benton Centella Cica Mask Pack
The sheet mask with Centella Asiatica for sensitive and blemish-prone skin. It soothes, provides hydration, and makes irritated skin look calmer and more balanced. Apply after cleansing and toner, then pat in the remaining essence.
Missha Airy Fit Aloe Mask
For irritated, stressed, or sun-tired skin: Aloe vera and hyaluronic acid cool, calm redness, and provide intensive hydration. A tip from use: put it in the fridge beforehand – the cooling effect is especially good for reddened skin.
Biodance Bio Hydro Cera-Nol Real Deep Mask
The intensive option for sensitive skin: a hydrogel mask with oligo-hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, and arctic water. It visibly soothes, reduces redness, and is worn overnight – simply remove it in the morning.
Oily skin, combination skin, and impurities
A shiny T-zone and clogged pores do not mean that your skin cannot tolerate a mask. It just needs light textures that balance sebum instead of weighing the skin down further. Rich masks with shea butter are the wrong choice here.
It's Skin The Fresh Tea Tree Mask
The clarifying sheet mask for a shiny T-zone and small impurities: Tea tree extract, grapefruit seed, and licorice root regulate excess sebum and reduce redness – for a balanced, matte complexion. Gentle enough even for sensitive skin.
Biodance Refreshing Sea Kelp Real Deep Mask
The hydrogel mask for skin that quickly looks unsettled, oily, or reddened: Sea kelp and deep sea water support the oil-water balance and even out excess sebum. Provides hydration without weighing the skin down – 3 to 4 hours during the day or overnight.
Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack
When regeneration is needed after impurities: Snail secretion filtrate, camellia leaf juice, and aloe soothe and smooth the skin, redness and swelling are reduced. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes.
Dull complexion and pigment spots
Dark spots and a tired, uneven skin tone need ingredients like niacinamide, alpha-arbutin, and glutathione – and time. This is where hydrogel masks make the most of their long wear time.
COSRX The Alpha-Arbutin Discoloration Care Hydrogel Mask
Alpha-arbutin, niacinamide, glutathione, and ferulic acid visibly refine the skin tone and reduce dark spots. The hydrogel mask turns transparent while the active ingredients absorb – wear for 2 to 3 hours, or overnight for more intensive care. Gentle enough for sensitive skin.
Biodance Radiant Vita Niacinamide Real Deep Mask
Niacinamide, glutathione, and pineapple water for dark spots, dull-looking skin, and an uneven skin surface. The Real Deep texture stays on for a long time and hydrates intensively – 3 to 4 hours during the day or as an overnight mask.
First lines and loss of firmness
For skin that should look plumper and firmer, collagen, peptides, and PDRN are the right ingredients. All three recommendations are hydrogel masks with a long wear time.
Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask
The best-known example: low-molecular collagen and oligo-hyaluronic acid plump the skin, three types of probiotics support the skin flora, and pores look refined. Dermatologically tested, also for sensitive skin. One to two times per week as an intensive treatment.
COSRX The Peptide Collagen Lifting Glow Hydrogel Mask
Six peptides, low-molecular collagen, and five types of hyaluronic acid reduce fine lines and firm the contours. Five ceramides additionally strengthen the skin barrier. Remove after 2 to 3 hours or wear overnight.
Bano:Bagi PDRN Collagen Gel Mask
Vegan b-PDRN, collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid firm the skin and strengthen the barrier. The 35-gram hydrogel mask hugs the contours and does not slip – wear for 20 to 30 minutes or overnight. You can read what exactly PDRN is in our PDRN guide.
Glow for the special occasion
Before an event, the skin should look plump, smooth, and radiant – the „Glass Skin" effect. These masks are made for that.
COSRX Advanced Snail Mucin Glass Glow Hydrogel Mask
25 % snail secretion, low-molecular collagen, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid flood the skin with hydration and make it look firmer and more radiant. Wear for 2 to 3 hours before the occasion – or overnight for maximum hydration.
Deepondé Signature Origin 100 Face Mask
The sheet mask with pure snow mushroom extract (Tremella): deep hydration, visibly refined pores, plump skin. Vegan and minimalist in its formulation. Important: remove after 10 to 20 minutes, not longer – otherwise the sheet draws moisture back out.
Overnight: sleeping masks for everyone who wants it uncomplicated
Not in the mood for sheets and pads? A sleeping mask goes on as the last step over your evening skincare and works while you sleep.
Medicube Collagen Night Wrapping Mask
Settles on the skin as a flexible care film and seals in the evening routine. Overnight it provides intensive hydration and supports firmness – peel off or wash off the film in the morning. For all skin types.
COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask
68,9 % rice extract nourishes dull and dry-looking skin overnight – for a smoother, more radiant complexion in the morning. Creamy texture, simply apply as the last step and rinse off in the morning.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I use a face mask?
As a guideline: intensive masks like the Biodance Bio-Collagen one to two times per week, light sheet masks two to three times per week. You can use a sleeping mask more often because it works like a last care step. Watch your skin – more is not automatically better.
Can I wear every mask overnight?
No. Only masks made for it belong on overnight: sleeping masks and many hydrogel masks. You remove a classic sheet mask after 10 to 20 minutes – if the sheet dries out, it draws moisture back out of the skin.
What do I do with the essence left over after the mask?
Pat it in instead of washing it off: Gently massage the remaining essence into your face and neck and then finish with your cream to seal in the hydration.
Does a mask replace my cream or my serum?
No. A mask is the extra step in the routine, not a replacement. After a sheet or hydrogel mask, the cream follows as usual. Only the sleeping mask goes on as the last step after the cream.
